a new approach to old problems
Role Playing Games (RPG) are increasingly being used for therapeutic interventions. Innovate Mental Health is currently forming individualized treatment groups using Table Top Role Playing Games (TTRPG). Each member will have an individualized plan for the issues they would like to see addressed or processed in group. The campaign will be written to integrate the needs of the group members.
Games will be designed with principles of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotional Parts Work, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), but will be focused on the recreational aspect of TTRPG play. In other words, we’re not sacrificing the fun. Games that are enjoyable are shown to be more effective in healing than games designed solely for education or skill building.
Through therapeutic RPG work you can gain:
Social Skills
Communication
Community Support
Emotional Regulation
Mindfulness
Processing Trauma
Breaking Cycles of Addiction
Forming Healthy Relationships
And more…
Groups run for an 8 week campaign, 1.5 hour sessions each week, using different game modalities and variations for greater individualization. The schedule is individualized as much as possible (specify your preferred times BELOW). Groups are available online or in-person for those who live locally.
This video explains some of the benefits of being part of a Group Therapy RPG led by a mental health clinician, and how a therapeutic RPG campaign is different from a non-therapy group, similar to how therapy itself is different from a good chat with a close friend.
