Online DBT Class

The goal of this self-study course is to teach the DBT Skills: Distress Tolerance, Core Mindfulness, Interpersonal Effectiveness, and Emotional Regulation. These skills are designed to help individuals diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, Borderline or Histrionic Personality Disorder, highly reactive emotions, relationship difficulties, addiction, and pervasive depression. DBT has been shown to be helpful in stabilizing a number of psychological symptoms, especially those that are resistant to treatment. This course is meant as general education, a self-improvement tool, or a supplemental material to add to your mental health management, and does not constitute or replace psychotherapy in any way.

The class is made up of audio and video sections teaching DBT skills and how people use them. Links will be sent once you have signed up.

You can also go to www.dbtselfhelp.org for worksheets and materials created by people who have been through DBT treatment themselves.

Some people need certification of completing treatment, for various reasons. If this is the case, you may choose to receive a certificate of completion. The certificate will include your name and details of the skill-building areas. Please note that it will identify that you completed a self-study DBT Skills course. Check with whatever entity is requiring the documentation to make sure this will fulfill your needs.

The curriculum is divided into 4 modules:

  • Distress Tolerance: an 8 week module focused on survival strategies for anxiety, panic, or emotional overreaction.

  • Core Mindfulness: a 10 week module addressing calming, centering, and focusing skills.

  • Interpersonal Effectiveness: a 6 week module focused on building & maintaining relationships.

  • Emotional Regulation: a 6 week module about skills for balancing moods and emotional reactions.
